Mountsorrel village is situated between Quorn and Rothley, a few miles south of Loughborough.
Mountsorrel is well known for its granite quarry, the stone from which is used for paving and for construction purposes. The Butter Cross was erected in 1793, in the centre of Mountsorrel and the village green is surrounded by old cottages and one of the two Parish Churches.
Situated on the edge of Mountsorrel, on Swithland Lane is the Mountsorrel & Rothley Heritage Centre. The building of which helped to preserve three historical buildings, that were painstakingly dismantled and rebuilt to form part of the site. The centre includes, heritage rooms, a nature trails, and a railway that runs between Mountsorrrel, Nunckley and Swithland Sidings.
Mountsorrel has an annual festival known as the Mountsorrel Revival, held at the beginning of August, which is held throughout the village including local businesses a parade, music and activities for children.
Mountsorrel castle was used as a bastion against King Stephen and destroyed in 1217 by the King's Men. There is just granite crag on Castle Hill, which is all that remains, however the Memorial to the fallen of the First World War stands on this site.
There is a good selection of shops and business in Mountsorrel, and also Stonehurst Farm & Museum, where you can view vintage cars as well and experiencing farm life. Leicestershire's only Michelin Star restaurant, John’s House, is also sited here.
