Right at Home Loughborough delivers excellent care in the home to clients in Queniborough and surrounding villages
The name Queniborough, is thought to have come from old English meaning the queen’s manor. The village is situated near Syston and was mentioned in the doomsday book showing that there was a settlement going back at least to the 11th century. Some 16th century houses are located in the heart of the village on MainStreet which are the oldest properties remaining with many of them listed.
There are two historical ‘Halls’ in Queniborough, Queniborough Old Hall built in the 1670’s and is Grade II listed, and Queniborough Hall in Main Street which was built in 1820 and has since been converted to flats.
Up until 1847, there wasn’t an ordinary village school in the village, just a school for children of workers on the Queniborough Hall estate, when a school was built on Main Street and available to all village children.
There are two pubs in Queniborough and a branch of the Royal British Legion, along with other independent stores and hairdressers. Queniborough also has active Scout and Girl Guide groups and other groups and activities around the village, at the Village Hall and School Hall.
Queniborough has a village sports field and park for young children, and a tennis court all situated at the King George’s Playing Field.
(The King George’s Fields Foundation was founded after the death of George V, as part of his memorial. The idea being to create recreational areas to be enjoyed by the people. There are 471 such playing fields which are protected by law and either run by trustees or the local council.)
