Outstanding care in Quorn

Right at Home Loughborough delivers excellent care in the home to clients in Quorn and surrounding villages.

Quorn is situated in Leicestershire close to the university town of Loughborough and was originally known as Quordon. However, due to the proximity of a Derbyshire village with the similar name of Quarndon, it was shortened to Quorn in 1889 which avoided confusion, particularly with postal services.

The area is known for quarrying, with the original name of Quorndon is thought to come from the name for hill, ‘dun’ and and ‘cweorn’, which means millstone. Much of the stone which was quarried in the area was used for building in Leicester and surrounds, and still is.

Quorn is on the route of a heritage railway which is on a section of the old Great Central line; the Great Central Steam Railway runs between Loughborough and Leicester and has a station by the name of Quorn & Woodhouse, which it shares with the adjacent hamlet of Woodhouse.

Quorn is also close to the Grand Union Canal and river Soar, unfortunately, there is a downside to this which is that the area does suffer some flooding.

There is an abundance of independent shops, and plenty of places to enjoy a drink or a meal, making Quorn a thriving and vibrant community.

News and information about Quorn can be found in the Village Life, which is published bi-monthly.
