Sileby is located between Loughborough and Leicester in the Soar Valley, close to Barrow on Soar and Mountsorrel, the settlement dates back to the 9th century. The name Sileby is thought to have come from the Danes who settled in the area.
St Marys, an Anglican church dates back to the 12th century, and has a gothic tower housing 10 bells.
There are good rail links with between Leicester and Loughborough and a bus link with Loughborough. Like its’ neighbouring villages, Sileby can be subject to flooding due to the closeness of the River Soar, with some roads being completely impassable for residents. However, this does mean that there is a thriving marina and also lots of opportunities to enjoy the surrounding countryside.
Sileby has many local amenities, including health services, shops, primary schools, places of worship, a community centre, a selection of shops and sporting facilities, including football, cricket, kick-boxing and tennis.
Sileby is a town with a strong industrial past, predominantly in manufacturing of clothing, however now just a few industrial buildings are left. The village has grown considerably over the past few years with new housing developments.
