Companionship
Practical care and a friendly face
Published: 13/02/2024
As we age, mobility has possibly become an issue and family might not be close by, we can experience loneliness for the first time. As getting out in the community becomes more challenging, a person’s world can become somewhat smaller, and they then start to lose touch with their wider circle of friends and acquaintances.
A person may not need care, as we might imagine it, just some help to do some domestic tasks around the home that have become difficult or unsafe to do. Having someone that can help with these tasks as well as someone to talk to about the day-to-day things in life is important. When there is less opportunity for conversation or discuss anything that may be concerning them, can easily bring on feelings of loneliness.
At Right at Home, we know that having company and someone to talk and to is vital for good mental health and having the opportunity to interact with others keeps loneliness and other health problems at bay and gives purpose to someone’s day.
Our Caregivers love to have a conversation that puts a smile on the faces of their clients. We also care about our clients’ interests and hobbies and wherever possible we can help them to continue enjoying the things they love.
We take clients out for coffee, for lunch, to garden centres, shopping for groceries or just to wander around the shops, to their church or to clubs and groups that they would like to continue to enjoy.
Companionship calls can also be useful for a persons’ family, so at times that they may not be able to visit as often as they would like, they know that their loved one is not feeling lonely and has conversation or activities to keep them stimulated and enjoying life.
