Dedicated to caring – Right at Home Director becomes People to Places Trustee

Caring is at the core of everything we do at Right at Home, it’s a dedication that manifests itself in all sorts of large and small ways with the people trusted into our care every day, but it also shows itself in our wider relationship with our community. This is why we are pleased to announce that Right at Home Maidenhead Director Scott MacRae has recently been appointed as a Trustee of People to Places.
People to Places is an amazing organisation operating in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead offering mobility services and helping lonely and vulnerable people tackle social isolation by giving them the means to participate in their local community.
Amongst the services People to Places provide are Community Transport, Shopmobility, Trips & Days Out and Essential Shopping. All of these help not just the elderly but anyone with a mobility impairment to get out and about to access the essential services and leisure activities that can otherwise be denied to them.
Shopmobility is especially important as a scheme that loans wheelchairs, powered chairs and mobility scooters to anyone with limited mobility from locations in both Windsor and Maidenhead. Windsor can be a particularly challenging environment for people with limited mobility with its steep hill climbing towards the castle and cobbled high street, but the equipment People to Places offer makes getting around in such conditions much easier.
Scott sees a lot of synergies with Right at Home and brings a deep understanding of the needs that lonely, vulnerable, elderly and limited mobility clients have.
Talking about his reasons for taking up the trusteeship he said,
“People to Places help people get out and about who have mobility problems, it keeps them engaged and part of the community and reduces loneliness, one of the things I see in my own business as a big issue.
“We reduce isolation, something we have all learnt a lot about over the past year, and so we all know how important it is to avoid, if we can do that safely. I want to give back to the local community so this is a nice and positive thing to do.
“I’m most looking forward to helping the charity stay strong and helping with fundraising so the local community can benefit from People to Places services now and in the long term.”
Scott has run Right at Home in Maidenhead for the last eight years and knows full well that accessing services can be difficult where a client has mobility issues, one of the reasons why our carers are seen as essential support workers by their clients.
He is passionate about helping people reduce their loneliness, something that brings untold mental health benefits. In the past 15 months where many new people have endured self-isolation, he sees it as a mission to help people out of their homes, to meet friends and family, to go shopping and to enjoy the same social interactions that able bodied people will shortly be enjoying.
