What is a CareGiver?

A CareGiver (you might also hear them called home care workers or visiting care workers) visits people in their homes to provide assistance with independent living. This encompasses a variety of tasks depending on the clients needs including personal care such as bathing or dressing, helping with medication and mobility assistance.

What experience do I need to become a CareGiver?

A Care Certificate and/or NVQ 2 or 3 in Care is desirable, but experience is not essential as we provide full Care Certificate Training, and ongoing further training, all paid. You will also need an up-to-date driving license and proof of eligibility to work in the UK.

What qualities do I need to be a CareGiver?

Being a CareGiver requires a friendly, patient, caring and compassionate nature. You will need a good level of written and spoken English, the ability to follow instructions and to work unsupervised.

How hard is the work?

The work itself is not normally physically demanding, however you do spend a lot of time on your feet and may be required to assist clients physically, for example helping them to stand-up from a chair or get out of the bath. We provide all the training you need to know how to lift someone correctly.

What will my duties be?

Every client has a Personal Care Plan that is agreed with them, so they know what to expect from their CareGiver. Duties therefore will vary for each client but can include personal care such as helping someone bathe, get dressed or brushing their hair, ensuring they take their medication, helping them to move, taking them for exercise or shopping outside the home or cooking to ensure the client is fed. Every client’s needs are different, but you will always be fully briefed and prepared as a Right at Home CareGiver.

What hours will I work?

Hours can be flexible, but we will offer a minimum number of hours.

What training will I receive?

We ensure you are fully trained and have a pathway for everyone of our CareGivers including being paid while training for a Care Certificate and funding for a Health & Social Care NVQ.

How much do you pay?

Rates of pay start at £11.20 per hour weekday and £12.30 per hour weekends with guaranteed hours available and double pay for Bank Holidays. Rates rise depending on the exact role.
