What responsibilities and duties will I have?

In a Homecare role in Eastleigh, Mid Hampshire and surrounding areas, your core responsibilities will vary depending on the specific area and individual client’s needs. No two days in the homecare world are ever the same, making it an exciting and rewarding career path to pursue.

All jobs in homecare are different, for example your day could go from emotional support and house cleaning chores to dementia care and administrative tasks and everything in between. If you are a caring person, who loves to take care of others then this really could be the path for you. Companionship, personal care, live-in care and even just being a part of someone’s day who may not see another person that day, are such an important part of the Caregiving role, and community alike.

What does a typical day as a CareGiver with Right at Home Mid Hampshire look like?

No two days with Right at Home are the same, but a typical day in the life of a CareGiver could look a little something like this...

6:00am - Wake up

7:30am - First care call with Damian*. We hoist Damian out of bed and into his shower chair, we complete a     shower for Damian and get him dressed. Once Damian is safely hoisted into his wheelchair and is comfortable, we feed him breakfast. This call includes personal care and emotional support, Now Damian and his Mum are ready for the day!

- Short drive to next client

8:45am - Arrive at Jean’s. Say hello and make her a cup of tea. Do any washing up that needs doing. Put on a load of washing. Some other household chores including hoovering and polishing, then sit and chat to Jean about how her week has been. Make sure she has everything she needs. Take her bins out as I leave. Jean has a lunchtime carer who will be with her in a couple of hours.

- Short drive to next client

10:00am - Arrive at Andrew’s. Greet him and make him a cup of tea. Andrew is a quiet gentleman so I tend to get on with his light housekeeping chores, rather than chatting too much. Once this is done I check what else Andrew would like me to do while I’m there and get on with that. Sometimes companionship is just about being there, even if the client doesn’t want to engage too much.

- Break

12:00pm - I arrive at Bernard’s. Bernard likes to wait for me at the window and throws his keys out to me so I can let myself in. I’m with Bernard for 2 hours every week, we have a coffee together and chat. I then do some light housekeeping such as dusting and making the bed. I empty Bernard’s bins and hoover, then we chat for the rest of the call. This is more of a companionship call, sometimes a simple conversation, a ‘hello’ or ‘how are you?’ is all the emotional support someone needs for the day! A smile can go a really long way too.

2:00pm - Finish

I finish at 2:00pm to fit around my child care needs.

Each of our CareGivers will agree that no two days are the same, with new challenges and Clients differing wants and needs, there is always something new to learn. However, the one thing that remains a constant is the incredibly rewarding feeling of knowing that every day, you are helping someone to live a happier, more fulfilled life.
