We are changing misconceptions about the homecare sector, highlighting the crucial work and ever-changing roles of our care workers.

At Right at Home Mide Sussex, we are celebrating the hard work of our community care workers/care professionals, who play a vital role in ensuring people can thrive at home. As part of a nationwide campaign by Right at Home UK, we proudly showcase the diverse responsibilities involved in homecare and challenge the misconception that caregiving is an unskilled job with no room for progression.

The ‘More Than Care’ campaign highlights the vast range of career opportunities available. This initiative features care professionals from across the country reflecting on their life-enriching decisions to enter the homecare sector.

Our care professionals are making a huge impact in their communities

At Right at Home Mid Sussex, our dedicated CareGivers and office staff are sharing their stories about their careers in care and the positive difference they make in our local community every day.  Once a month, Right at Home Mid Sussex regularly hold staff and client coffee mornings in the office giving clients, employees and their families a chance to meet like-minded people in a convivial setting.  With attendees ranging in age from 8 months to 93 years, this is a real chance to build community ties and make new friends.

How is the role of the care professional changing?

According to Heather Wehrle, Director of People and Brand at Right at Home UK: “The role of a care professional has evolved significantly over recent years. Today, community care workers possess a wide range of technical skills. To meet this evolution, the quality of training, learning and development opportunities has progressed to ensure this proud workforce can meet the demands of the communities they serve.”

Andy McNiven, Owner of Right at Home Mid Sussex, explains “It has been really important to us to ensure that we provide a culture of growth and development for our CareGivers, where they feel as if they have all the training and coaching required to support the needs of our clients. Having moved into larger offices with a bespoke training room in the past 18 months and having invested in our back office training team, it has given us the platform we need so that our CareGivers can deliver great care day-in, day-out.”

At Right at Home Mid Sussex, we invest heavily in staff development.

We provide tailored career pathways that align with our care professionals' homecare aspirations. Through our extensive array of training courses, personalised coaching, and mentoring, we empower our care professionals to achieve their goals within the social care sector.

Indeed, Lou Berreen started working for the Right at Home Mid Sussex in 2017 as a CareGiver, and after winning a National Award as ‘CareGiver of the Year’, decided to study to progress her career, and is now our Registered Manager.

What makes Right at Home Mid Sussex a great place to work?

Andy McNiven commented: “Many of our team regularly comment that we are ‘like one big happy family’ and that it often doesn’t feel like a job when they support their clients. We do place great importance on giving our CareGivers a good work-life balance and making sure they feel part of a team. It is no great surprise that many of our staff have been with us for over 7 years now and a number of them have been promoted into more senior roles during these times”

Right at Home Mid Sussex recently received a 5-Star Employer Award from employee engagement platform, WorkBuzz for the fifth consecutive year. This recognition reflects our commitment to providing a supportive environment for our valued workforce.
