Brixton's World famous shopping street

Did you know....Electic Avenue in Brixton was the first shopping street to have electric light? It was built in the 1880s and featured many high quality shops. The picture shows it at Xmas time.
Two important people were born near here. David Bowie was born in Landor Road in 1947 which is a 10 minute walk away.
Less famous....our director Michael's grandad Fred Scott was born in Mayall Road in 1893! This is just near Railton Road, Brixton. Michael's great grandfather Harry Scott was a butcher in Brixton in the late 1800s.
No doubt he would have been amazed by the new lights in the fancy Electric Avenue! Freddie must have seen the lights from his pram! Michael knew Fred well. He had a long and happy life after surviving 4 years in France in the 1st World War and a V1 bomb hitting his house in 1945.
