Live-In Care – the best possible Care for Your Loved One

Live-in care is becoming ever more popular

When asked, nearly all of us say we would prefer to stay in our own home for as long as possible in our final years.  How long this is possible depends on a number of factors including whether we live alone, our mobility and mental capacity.  Homecare visits can be arranged for extra support, where needed, to prolong our time living safely and happily in our own home.

For those needing more support than just daily visits, live-in care can work really well.  Live-in carers have a unique lifestyle in that they arrive, Mary Poppins style, with a suitcase and move in to live with the person needing care.  Some live-in carers stay for months – even years!  They become part of the family – providing dedicated one-to-one care for you or your loved-one.  They are available around the clock, but normally will work an average of 10 hours a day.

The great thing about live-in care – as compared to a care home is continuity and consistency. Unlike rotating shifts in a care home, live-in caregivers provide a stable presence.  Such consistency ensures familiarity and trust, which is vital for building trust with the caregiver.  The quality of care is also enhanced as the caregiver becomes attuned to the specific needs, preferences, and routines of the person being cared-for.

Continuing to live at home, in familiar surroundings is comforting. It’s where we have our happy memories.  Staying at home, often with our pets, can contribute positively to mental well-being and overall happiness. It also allows greater independence and autonomy compared to a care home, where rules and working arrangements may restrict personal freedom.

Family involvement is made easier with live-in care.  Loved ones can stay closely involved in the care process, providing additional support and companionship.  This helps maintain family bonds and provides reassurance to all concerned.

Although not cheap, live-in care can be better value than a care home when considering the one-to-one care provided and benefits outlined above.

Live-in care is becoming ever more popular, no doubt in part to the negative news stories about care homes during the Covid pandemic.  It is recommended as a holistic approach to caregiving, with a focus on individual needs, personal independence, and overall well-being.  Remaining in the comfort of your own home with professional, personalized care, live-in care is now the preferred choice for many families seeking the best possible care for their loved one.
