Our Holistic Dementia Care Service
Our Dementia Care Service helps ensure clients with dementia can stay safe at home, living with dignity and fulfilment.

There are currently an estimated 982,000 people living with dementia in the UK, and that number is expected to rise to 1.4 million by 2040. This increase is due to population growth and an aging population, as age is the strongest known risk factor for dementia. Dementia is an incurable disease of the brain which over time impairs the person's ability to live independently. Symptoms include memory loss and personality changes that commonly cause confusion, agitation or aggression. Other effects of the disease are reduced mobility, weight loss and sleep deprivation.
We provide specialised holistic care for clients living with dementia. We promote their well-being, helping them lead fulfilling lives. Our dementia care programme is comprehensive, with specialized training for staff, guidance to families on best home environment, person-centered tailored activities for each client, and strong family and community involvement. All these element combine to ensure clients with dementia can stay safe at home, living with dignity and fulfilment.
Staff Training and Roles
All staff receive specialized training in dementia care. Our director is a Dementia Champion. She plays a key role in raising awareness and implementing our dementia strategy. She has completed formal training through the Alzheimer's Society. She facilitates Dementia Friend sessions to educate both staff and external organisations. All staff are also required to complete face-to-face and online dementia training to enhance their skills.
We stay in touch with local dementia-related organizations such as Age UK, Alzheimer's Society and local Dementia Actions Alliances. We are continually seeking to improve our dementia care.
Dementia-Friendly Environments
Our team assesses each home and where possible helps to adapt the home as best as we can to meet the need of the client living with dementia. Key changes include:
- Furniture and lighting: clear floor space ideally with no bold patterns, good shadow free lighting, and easily identifiable doors and cupboards.
- Outdoors: gardens are best with pathways, bright colourful plants, seating, and sensory items to encourage outdoor activity.
- Quiet Space: if we can we help the client, and their family arrange a quiet, relaxing room for clients needing peace and quiet.
- Technology: sensors, pendants, and other alarm systems can help our client stay safe especially during night-time. They can also help monitor movement if the client leaves the home.
- Visual aids: Pictures and signs can be used to create a familiar environment. We also use pictures of the visiting carers to help recognition.
Activities
Our carers ensure each client is offered activities during visits to engage their attention and make the visit as supportive as possible:
- Games and Puzzles: options include puzzles, books, exercise, and music.
- Memory box: old photographs and keepsakes help stimulate conversation and keep clients connected with their loved ones.
- Local Cafes: many clients love visiting local cafes for a coffee or light meal.
- Pets: one of the benefits of home care is that your loved one can stay at home with their pets. We recognise the amazing comfort and fun our clients can get from their lovely furry friends.
Care Plans
We prepare a comprehensive care plan for each clint. This includes life histories, personal preferences to make sure the client’s choices are respected. Next of kin are encouraged to help their loved ones' care, working together as a team to provide the best care we can.
Nutrition
Nutrition and hydration are critical for all our vulnerable clients, and more especially for those living with dementia. Care plans include details of specific diets, needs and risks for each client.
Our Standards
We strive to maintain a dementia-friendly service that enhances of clients’ quality of life every day. Our management team carries out spot checks and regular audits to ensure our high standards are met. Our goal is to provide each client with opportunities for joy, meaningful engagement, and community involvement, while respecting their individual needs and choices.
