Caring for clients in troubled times
Published: 29/03/2019
One of the key concerns for in the current crisis is ensuring the welfare of vulnerable family members. As a business committed to the care of some of the most vulnerable in society Right At Home in North Somerset have worked with our colleagues in Right At Home UK and other partners to keep abreast of the latest Government advice and to be aware of the welfare of our Clients CareGivers and the rest of our team.
The Right At Home ethos says that: “We know that emotional and moral support for our Clients and their family can be just as important as our specialist care knowledge”. There has never been a time when this was more important. If their friends and family are unable to visit them, and the occasional trip out is not possible then the visits from our CareGivers can be the only regular contact that our clients are able to have with other people. While the requirements of Social Distancing may make some forms of interaction more difficult, a friendly familiar presence can make all the difference, especially where Alzheimer’s or Dementia can limit the Client’s understanding of Coronavirus and the resulting restrictions.
We have published a couple of blogs on the practical aspects of our work during the Covid19 outbreak, which you can find on our news page. For us here in North Somerset it is important that our Clients remain safe and comfortable in their homes, that we work with their families to keep them in touch, supporting Clients to use technology to video call and talk to family members and friends, as well as keeping up to date on health and welfare. Keeping to a routine has been one of the main ways of maintaining mental health in this time and is especially important for our clients who may well be more affected by the constant news updates. One of our best prices of advice in fact is turn off the news, stay up to date but don’t feel you have to watch or listen constantly. Our CareGivers will also help with keeping mind and body active, encouraging exercise both physical and mental.
We have given some information and advice on our work during the Coronavirus crisis and how we are maintaining our support for our Clients HERE. To discuss your personal circumstances in more detail please contact the North Somerset team. I’m sure you will appreciate that our priority is our work with our Clients so we will respond as promptly as we can.
