Dementia Awareness Month

September is Dementia Awareness Month, and as we support many people with dementia and their families, Right at Home North Somerset wanted to mark this month by fundraising for Alzheimer's UK

At Right at Home North Somerset, we are experienced at working with Clients with a number of different conditions. This means that while caring for someone with conditions such as dementia, cancer or stroke recovery can seem scary and unknown to you and your loved ones,
for our experienced CareGivers it is totally normal, and they can offer the reassurance and support that you may need.

September is Dementia Awareness Month, and as we support many people with dementia and their families, Right at Home North Somerset wanted to mark this month. We have decided to hold a fundraiser for Alzheimer's UK and take part in Trek 13, a 13 mile walk along North Somerset’s Strawberry Line, to raise vital funds for this amazing charity. We’re aiming to raise at least £500 to support their work, and if you’d like to support us in our mission then you can donate here

Alzheimer’s UK is committed to changing the way that people with dementia are viewed in society, and supported, and this is a mission that we support wholeheartedly. We see, day in and day out, just how crucial their work and research can be to making life a little easier for anyone suffering with dementia.

What to do if your loved one with dementia is refusing to go into care

If you have a loved one with dementia, then we can support you both to enable them to live independently for as long as possible. We offer live-in dementia support across North Somerset that will allow them to keep the stability and routine that they are used to. This, combined with a regular rota of CareGivers will reduce the risk of distress and disorientation in those with dementia, and allow both you and your loved one to get to know and trust the CareGivers who will be assisting you.

If your loved one with dementia would benefit from a level of care that you cannot provide (whether this is because of a lack of time or not having the knowledge), but they are refusing to consider a dementia care home, live-in dementia care could be the answer. Our dementia specialist carers can provide the support that both you and your loved one need, without the distress of moving them to an unfamiliar place.

Together we can develop a personalised care plan that can be adapted as the needs of your loved one changes, allowing them to stay in familiar surroundings for as long as possible. While a dementia care home might initially seem like the only option to ensure that your loved one receives the best possible dementia care in Weston super Mare or the surrounding Somerset area, with the help of our experienced, highly trained Dementia specialist CareGivers, they can be supported to remain at home and as independent as possible for as long as possible.

Caring for a parent with Dementia at home

We understand how hard caring for a loved one can be, and this can be made even tougher if they suffer from dementia. We can offer dementia respite care to allow you time to recharge your batteries, and attend to other areas in your life that you may be neglecting as a result of your caring duties.

We understand that the progression of dementia symptoms looks different for each person, and therefore if you find yourself needing extra support in caring for your loved one, we can work together to adapt their personalised dementia care plan to offer you the support you need.

Whether you’re looking for dementia care in Weston super Mare, Clevedon, or the surrounding Somerset area, for yourself or a loved one, we can help.
