Post-Covid Support

We are now moving towards the slow restarting of the economy and many people are thinking about resuming their regular lives. While everyone has struggled with the effects of lockdown, for some of the most vulnerable people in our society the hardest part may only now be starting. Older people in particular may have got used to regular visits from friends and family, even if they are socially distanced. Now that their family members may be returning to work isolation may actually be a bigger problem than during lockdown.
With those less able to care for themselves suddenly finding they have less contact with their family than in recent months, looking at how day to day care needs will be met is important. However, considering the impact on mental and emotional wellbeing is just as vital. Having the reassurance that a professional Caregiver is visiting every day can go a long way to providing peace of mind to friends and family and to giving the support in all aspects of the person who will benefit from the care. It is not just about dealing with the practical matters, helping with medication, food preparation and personal care, it is mostly about companionship. At Right at Home, visits to our clients aren’t dictated by the clock. There is always time for a cup of tea and a chat. Loneliness among the elderly was reaching crisis point well before the current pandemic and we understand that we need to focus on the person not on the care. All our Caregivers are carefully matched to each of their Clients through their interests and personalities, building trust and genuine friendships. As well as supporting our clients we provide peace of mind to their families, keeping them informed and allowing them to stop worrying about their family member, meaning that their own visits and calls will focus on family time, not the problems of care.
Lockdown can have been a confusing and disorienting time for those living with Alzheimer’s or Dementia. Familiarity and regular routines are key to reducing distress, but this is one the areas that has been most impacted by Covid19. A good diet, suitable exercise and cognitive stimulation have all been shown to have a positive effect on dementia symptoms Right At Home have specially trained CareGivers who can help ensure that your loved one is receiving consistent support in the familiar home environment is ideal wherever possible.
