Right at Home helps raise £1.5K for local dementia group.
On Sunday 28th April Petersfield residents rallied in the rain to support a charity Dementia Walking Football Tournament to raise money for the Dementia Walking Football group and increase awareness about the impact of dementia. The successful event, which raised an impressive £1500, was made possible by the support and generosity of the local community, and by the organisers Right at Home Care, Dementia Friendly Petersfield, Petersfield FC and Jonno Ratcliffe (from Active8).
The event was held in memory of Jeff Williams, who over the years worked tirelessly with dementia groups in Petersfield and left a lasting impact on our community. Duncan Cameron, Business Owner of Right at Home care and co-founder of the Dementia Walking Football Group, commented, “This event served as a fitting tribute to Jeff’s legacy. He would be very proud of what everyone had achieved today. It is an honour to support our local community with specialist dementia care service's as well as community events like this to raise money and awareness of the disease.”
Petersfield Mayor, JC Chrissey, a long-time supporter of Dementia Friendly Petersfield presented a £1,000 cheque before the kick off, from monies raised from his fundraising over the course of his Mayoral year. He said of the event, “It was an amazing success. Not only did it raise an amazing amount of money in support of Dementia Friendly Petersfield, but it showed how local volunteers can make a major impact on helping others.”
The attendees were also delighted that local MP Damian Hinds made an appearance and helped with awarding the trophy to the winners of the four competing teams, Winchester Walking Footballers. Damian, who had worked with Jeff Wiliams and the Dementia Friendly Petersfield community over the years said, “The tournament was a huge highlight for me and I was honoured to present the winners’ trophy. It was so apt that the ‘Jeff Williams’ trophy was so called. I learnt a lot from Jeff over the years about service, community and the importance of giving something back, and the tournament embodied all of these qualities. His will be a lasting legacy.”
