Meet Jane
"Hi, I’m Jane, I’m a qualified Humanist Therapeutic Counsellor. Prior to my training as a counsellor, I was a successful engineer for more than 25 years within the defence and aerospace business. However, I found myself increasingly unsatisfied, in both the role and in the industry. I wanted to do something more meaningful and rewarding, a role where I would make a difference to the lives of others. So, seven years ago I took the decision to leave my engineering job and retrain as a counsellor.
I qualified almost three years ago with a Foundation Degree Science (FdSc) in Humanistic Counselling, and I now work part time within my own counselling practice. I also volunteer as a counsellor with The Bereavement Counselling Charity.
Towards the end of my training, I worked as a CareGiver with Right at Home Portsmouth. Being new to care work, I didn’t know what to expect and wasn’t entirely sure if I was the right person for the job. My fears soon abated when I discovered that I really enjoyed helping and being with my clients.
My experience of working in both counselling and caring roles has helped me realise the value of my compassion, my open mindedness, and of my inquisitive mind. I truly believe that I am able to make a difference, especially to the most vulnerable and those who are struggling in life.
After personal illness and the pandemic keeping me away, I’m so excited to be returning to my CareGiver role. However, I’m equally excited and honoured to have been ask by Joe and Madeline to also offer Wellbeing support to staff at Right at Home Portsmouth.
As Wellbeing manager my aim is to offer a supportive environment for staff to be heard and seen without judgment, a space to process and understand what is going on for them. While people have similar life experiences, I recognise that each person is unique with their own individual experience, therefore, I will listen with curiosity to fully understand how the individual experiences their life and to offer any appropriate help if I can.
On a personal note, family is very important to me, I am married, and I have two lovely daughters. I am also lucky enough to have two gorgeous grandsons who keep me busy on a regular basis. Not forgetting Newton, my 7-year-old Labradoodle who keeps my fit by keeping me company on our long daily walks.
I look forward to working with you.
Jane "
