Portsmouth CareGivers complete ‘3K a day’ challenge for the British Heart Foundation
Published: 01/03/2024
We've got an exciting story to share with you all. Throughout February, the dedicated team at Right at Home Portsmouth, took on a fantastic challenge to support the British Heart Foundation (BHF) in their mission to combat heart and circulatory diseases. The team managed to gain over £200 in donations over the month.
The Purpose Behind the Challenge: Supporting the British Heart Foundation
Staff from Right at Home Portsmouth chose to walk, run, or cycle three kilometres per day, every day, rain or shine throughout the month of February, in the hope of raising awareness about heart and circulatory diseases, which cause 170,000 deaths a year in the UK – that’s one every three minutes.
The team was inspired to take on the challenge after witnessing the impact of heart disease on their loved ones and communities.
Raising Awareness: Shedding Light on Heart and Circulatory Diseases
Joe Morgan, owner of Right at Home Portsmouth commented: “As someone who has seen first-hand the challenges faced by individuals living with heart conditions, participating in this event holds immense significance to me.
“It's an opportunity to not only raise funds for the British Heart Foundation, but also to raise awareness about the importance of cardiovascular health. I hope that our efforts will contribute to supporting those affected by heart disease and inspire others to prioritise their heart health.”
Team Highlights: Celebrating Notable Achievements
Throughout February, the team has been diligently focused on supporting the BHF on its mission to prevent heart and circulatory diseases from developing and helping those with existing conditions live the best quality of life possible.
Gabrielle, Right at Home’s Registered Manager, even took on the Winchester 10K, while CareGiver, Louise Scott, went the extra mile by running 10 miles all over Portsmouth city.
In addition to the physical aspect of the challenge, Right at Home Portsmouth launched a dedicated WhatsApp group, where words of encouragement, and motivation were shared, with check-ins on each other’s progress.
Gabrielle said: “There’s a great sense of camaraderie amongst the team, which has boosted morale and strengthened our resolve to make a meaningful impact through our fundraising efforts for the BHF. I’m so proud of our team, even if they aren’t doing the 3K challenge, they are donating, sharing our posts far and wide, and really cheering us on”.
