Musical Movement at East Surrey Hospital

As we get older, a stiffening, creaking and groaning body is one of the many things we have to contend with. And, this can be exacerbated if you experience a fall or other type of injury.
Help is at hand!
As well as providing quality care at home, we also bring a little TLC and support with rehab to help those in our community maintain an active and healthy lifestyle as possible.
Musical Movement at East Surrey Hospital
Apurva Sharma, owner of Right at Home Reigate and Crawley and qualified physiotherapist says, “I’m passionate about supporting people to return to hobbies and activities they enjoy once they are fit and able to do so. I wanted to use my skills as a physio to support out local community and I’m delighted that this has led to us bringing Musical Movement to East Surrey Hospital!”
Our Musical Movement sessions take place every 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month, 2pm – 4pm in the IRU ward for patients of the hospital.
Musical Movement is fun and friendly with low impact, seated movements. Our dementia champions volunteer for this two-hour session engaging with patients by taking a stroll down their memory lane and singing memorable music from the 1940s – 1950s. This is followed by some light refreshments.
The sessions are run as part of our partnership with Dementia Action Alliance and is also supported by volunteer staff at the hospital.
As well as promoting some gentle exercise, Musical Movement provides a stimulating environment for those with Dementia, helping to evoke emotions that bring about memories. It also encourages interaction and socialising, something which we are keen to promote at Right at Home, to prevent feelings of loneliness and isolation.
One of the participants said, “this session has made my husband very happy. We don’t get to go out much and to be able to sing songs while at the hospital is so enjoyable.”
