Things to do in Congleton, May 2024

In case you haven’t already seen, Right At Home is now offering our care to people within the area of Congleton! Congleton is a spectacular market town surrounded by a beautiful countryside; therefore, it would be rude not to make the most out of it if you are passing by!

So, you’re wondering, what is there to do? We’ve got that one covered for you, listed below are our top 5 things to do/visit in Congleton:

1.Congleton Park

Created in 1871, the park is a lovely day out, a great idea for a leisurely walk containing views of the jubilee gardens and the beautiful greenery. Most visitors say it is worth bringing some food along or even a picnic, as it can be quite a long walk for some, so stopping and re-energising with some food and water is the perfect way to split up your day and complete the full park walk.  If you’re lucky you may have the chance to visit when there are live bands or performances on as the park often holds events like this. However, don’t stress if you forgot some food, the park has its own pavilion which offers light refreshments and food, or you could even extend your walk a little further and venture into the town centre which is only a 5-minute walk from the pavilion.

2.Congleton Museum

Congleton Museum is located in Congleton town centre, free of entry and open Tuesday-Sunday, various times depending on day. You can travel all the way back to the medieval times as the museum showcases periods from all of Congleton and some surrounding areas as well. It has many interactive activities throughout, a wide range of historic coins, detailed timeline of Congleton and staff are very friendly and informative. It would be worth looking into their website as they quite often hold events such as afternoon tea, history walks and many more!

3.Glebe Farm Astbury

Glebe Farm is located just on the outskirts of Congleton, however, is well worth the drive to visit! The farm contains a range of animals, starting from your standard farm animals like cows, pigs, sheep, etc… all the way to meercats and alpacas! The farm has many stalls and small locally owned shops such as butchers, cheese stalls, ice-cream stands, fresh fruit and veg, a range of alcohol and many more. The farm is free to all visitors, with things like tractor rides and animal feeding costing a little extra (latest updates state they’re only £1 each!) and is open 9-5 Monday-Saturday, Sunday opening times are 9-4 and bank holiday times may differ.

 4.Clonter Opera Theatre

If you are an individual who is into the art of classical music, this is the place for you, The Clonter Opera Theatre holds many entertaining performances that you wouldn’t get anywhere else. The theatre holds themselves to a very high level of hospitality and friendliness from their staff towards the audiences arriving, making the experience feel very fulfilled. An example of one of the events they are holding is the ‘Tea… With Songs From The Shows’, which is essentially a performance alongside afternoon tea, the chance to banquet in style. Their prices range from £39-£24 and they also hold another version of this performance, which is the relaxed adaptations, which is perfect for those who need a little extra hand as this rendition was originally brought in for those with carers or in care homes, due to this, carers come along for free! (This is one of our personal favourites to visit if you get the chance!).

5.Little Moreton Hall

This uniquely shaped Tudor house was built over 500 years ago and has truly stood the test of time, unalike the other recommendations within this list, there may not be as great of a deal of things to do in comparison to the other places on our list, but don’t let that put you off going. Little Moreton Hall is such a unique and fascinating piece of architecture within Congleton that it is a must visit sight! The detail of this Tudor house design gives a great insight on how the Tudor’s lived their day to day lives and how this time period impacted us throughout the many years this building has stood still, inside you can even find things such as herbs and veg the Tudor’s will have used, the original layout of the hall and some furniture and appliances used by the Tudor’s themselves! They also offer a lovely afternoon tea with full table service.

Another bonus place to visit is The Old Saw Mill, which is a volunteer workplace, a lovely café for the community to enjoy and are known for their apple juice which is made specifically in Congleton. Carole, one of our members, visited The Old Saw Mill and said that you can feel the sense of community within the café creating a lovely environment to be in!

That’s a wrap for our top 5! However, Congleton has so much more to offer, so if you’re looking for a nice and relaxed day out, we would highly recommend Congleton. We would recommend clicking HERE to view the offical events and attractions through an online leaflet provided by Congleton Council.
