Keeping Active in Summer
Keeping physically active is very important. As well as the obvious benefits exercise has on ones physical health, such as; Improvement in Brain Health, Help Managing Weight and Reduced Risk of Disease, it has also proven to positively impact Mental Health. However, as we're quickly approaching the Summer months and the temperature begins to rise, exercising is going to be become increasingly difficult. Hot temperatures can make it harder for people to exercise as they get older, however, we understand the importance of exercise, particularly for older generations. So, this Blog will provide tips on how you, or your loved ones, can continue Keeping Active in Summer. Physical activity doesn’t have to be high-intensity workouts like the gym or runs, we understand that for many, low-intensity workouts are more suited. Depending on the age and ability of an individual, a workout could simply be a short walk, some exercise is better than none! And light activity still counts as keeping fit! Follow our tips below to help keep your loved ones active in Fareham, Gosport, Southampton & New Forest East.
Why is Exercise Important for Older People?
Older people who exercise regularly can have an Improved Immune System and be less at risk to diseases such as Diabetes, Heart disease and Alzheimer’s. Exercise can also help improve the strength and tone of your muscles, meaning that our elderly clients are less likely to fall and hurt yourself; which unfortunately, is something that we see far too often. Just 20 to 30 minutes of exercise a day can help keep your heart running as it should, and as already discussed, this does not have to be intense exercise, just a simple walk around the garden, the block, or the local park, is sufficient. Did you know? As we get older, the risk of Heart Disease increases and 1 in 6 heart and Circulatory Diseases are associated with a high BMI (excess body weight) in the UK.
