I'm Leighann...

I’m the Care Service Manager, soon to be a fully registered manager. My role is all about overseeing the safe and effective running of our care services, ensuring our clients receive the highest level of care, and supporting our incredible CareGivers out in the community.

What does a typical day look like for you?

No two days are ever the same for me! My typical day consists of checking in with CareGivers, reviewing client feedback, responding to emails, liaising with healthcare professionals, conducting assessments, handling new enquiries, and attending important meetings. I also work closely with our Care Manager Yasmin, this looks like ensuring we are meeting our meeting the regulation requirements and exceeding these set by CQC, a perk of an outstanding service is always striving for above average at all times!

How do you ensure the best possible care for clients and support for CareGivers?

I firmly believe that when you look after your CareGivers, they will look after your clients. A well supported CareGiver with amazing training and full access to a well-staffed support team 24/7 will always strive to provide great care because they feel valued and confident in their role. By instilling knowledge, support, and encouragement, I empower caregivers to take on feedback and continuously improve. I make sure that Right at Home Solent remains a fantastic place to work, which translates into the outstanding care we provide to our clients. Who doesn’t love a cuppa and a chat anytime you pop into the office!

What are the most rewarding parts of your role?

For me, there are three key elements that make my role incredibly fulfilling:

Team Success: Seeing my team win, whether that’s through positive feedback, successful marketing efforts, or new client enquiries, brings a sense of pride and satisfaction.

Client Wellbeing: Helping clients remain in the comfort of their own homes with 1:1 support is truly rewarding. It reinforces their dignity and independence, showing them they are deserving of 1:1 compassionate care.

Family Trust: Being included in major family decisions, such as hospital discharges or increasing care packages, is an incredible honour. Seeing a next of kin breathe a sigh of relief knowing their loved one is in safe hands is a deeply moving experience. Family and Client relationships is something that will always be a priority to me.

What Inspired You to Work in Care?

My journey into care began at the age of 16. I always knew I wanted to help people but wasn’t sure how. I initially worked in childcare as a nursery assistant and private nanny and then transitioned into supporting individuals with learning difficulties and challenging behaviours before moving into elderly care in a care home setting. My previous role focused on quality and compliance at a domiciliary care company, which ultimately led me to Right at Home, a place where I feel I belong.

How does Right at Home Solent go the Extra Mile?

I have never worked with an organisation that puts clients and their families first the way Right at Home does. Our team consistently goes above and beyond to provide extra support, whether it’s sourcing Occupational Therapists or Physiotherapists to give clients the best chance at maintaining independence. It’s this dedication to exceptional care that truly sets Right at Home apart. It is refreshing to hear everyone communicating ways to be better, to go above and beyond, to think outside the box and that we can fulfil clients wishes to stay at home until the end of their lives.

Do you have any advice for someone thinking about joining the Care industry?

My advice is simple... DO IT! If you are genuinely caring and empathetic, a career in care is absolutely worth considering. The role is challenging, but it is also one of the most rewarding careers you can have. Making a difference in people’s lives every day is truly special.
