What is the 'Cost of Living Crisis'?
The 'Cost of Living Crisis' refers to the current fall in 'disposable' incomes; which have been adjusted Inflation in regards to Taxes and Benefits; the UK has been experiencing this crisis since late 2021. Currently in the UK, the rate on Inflation is completely overtaking the rate of wages. The increase in wages has not been sufficient enough to keep up with the rate of Inflation and people are suffering as a result.
So, what we can do to make the upcoming winter easier?
The Cost of Living Crisis has seen everything increase in price; even every day items, and it is expected that this will continue to go up. Here are some of the things you can do to save your money, ready for the upcoming winter months:
- Get more from your groceries: Plan your meals in advance to prevent food wastage and consider buying cheaper alternatives (try buying supermarkets own brands) to save money!
- Save energy at home: It is expected that within the months to follow, our energy bills at home are going to increase significantly. Over the coming months you can save money by: using your appliances as little as you can, consider using dimmable LED's (these are cheaper to run that normal light bulbs) and try to keep your thermostat as low as possible!
