Bowdon's History
Lying on the county of Cheshire and Dunham Massey Bowden gains it's name from the Anglo Saxon word Boga-dūn meaning bow or curved hill.
The main occupation in urmston all the way up to the 19 century was farming until weaving became a more prominent sourse of employment
Bigger industries took over and the Cheshire lines railway was introduced to the area in 1873 allowing the population to grow.
