Timperley's History

Timperly gains its name from the Anglo Saxon's words for forest clearing 

Evidence suggests that Timperley was a settlement between the 7th and 8th century.

Timperly was mostly an agricultural town focusing on crops until the railway was introduced in 1849 allowing the town to modernize and the population more than doubling between 1851 and 1871.

A noticeably famous figure who lived around the area was Chris Sievey a musician, comedian, and artist known for performing in the band The Freshies.

Chris was most well known for his character Frank Sidebottom in which he wore a papier-mâché painted mask and performed on stage a mix of music and comedy.

He released several albums and eps as Frank over the years and appeared in multiple radio shows and Tv shows.

Unfortunately, Chris sadly passed away in 2010 and a state was unveiled in Timperley in his honour.
