While we like to stress that Right at Home Stockport is all about providing the highest level of care, we could not achieve that without having the highest quality professional carers on our team.

This week, we thought we would sit down with one of our team members, Annmarie, about her care journey to her home with us at Right at Home Stockport.

Who is Annmarie?

Annmarie left school 20 years ago heading into a totally different care area - hair care! A first career choice of hairdressing may have felt like an easy fit, but it was not long before Annmarie felt that this role was not a cut above where her destiny truly lay.

The care gene was already in Annmarie's blood, as her mother was a carer for many years. It went without saying that Annmarie knew from a young age the responsibility and commitment involved in care work and how amazing the level of care can be for the vulnerable. With that knowledge, she decided to follow a more natural career path in care.

After early onboarding training, Annmarie relocated from her home in Luton to Yorkshire, where she grew her experience in care for those with spinal and brain injuries.

Following her time in Yorkshire, she would return to Luton to work in stroke rehabilitation on their care needs. With these various care experiences rapidly building up her resume, Annmarie would take another plunge following meeting who would become her husband, taking her once more from Luton and transplanting her into Manchester where she would find her home with the team at Right at Home Stockport.

Why she chose to work at Right at Home Stockport

"I have to say one of the biggest things that impressed me about Right at Home was the quality of care they offered," says Annmarie.

"They had a bit of everything when I first came on board, which I appreciated - and I appreciated what they stood for. I have been in various forms of home care support in different areas, but this is possibly the first time where I have thought “Hang on, this truly is about the people we are taking care of - and we are not being rushed out the door to get to the next client.”

The vast difference between when Annmarie's mother did care work and the level of care given now speaks volumes about her current employment.

"When mum did it, it was fifteen-minute calls to each client - a quick in and out job. That isn't care in my opinion, certainly not what clients need today. With Right at Home, the minimum is 1 hour, so you get to know these clients and ensure they have everything before you go. It means the world to some."

What makes Right at Home different?

"I liked the fact that Right at Home was a franchise, a small business at the start, so I felt I could grow better than with other companies."

Annmarie has spoken about the difference various care providers give not just to clients, but also to their employees, feeling Right at Home provided so much more in a care environment.

"After working with them for a few months, it felt like a family where everyone was close and worked together. You could be in a low mood but after a few seconds, this lot will pick you up and you are back on cloud nine. That extends to us not doing those quick pop-in visits, giving our clients up to one hour so that you ensure everything is catered for and they have rapport and are not feeling rushed. I love catching up with all of our clients."

Why she enjoys working with Right at Home

As well as the superior levels of care and companionship support provided by Right at Home, the company has enabled Annmarie to grow from within and see her credentials in care grow alongside it.

“Since I came to Right at Home Stockport, I have gone from a carer to senior carer to training and development lead, and the company has fully supported me with everything I have needed to grow within the care profession and boosted my confidence to be better.”

The level of support has not only been from the team at Right at Home but also from the clients who have grown a strong bond with Annmarie. "All along I have felt very supported, and our clients are lovely. This truly is a home for me and not a day goes by where I don't love what I'm doing."

What is the Most Important Aspect of Care in the Stockport Area?

"Straight away, I would say that the most vital aspect of our care service is enabling our clients to stay at home, where they want to be instead of care homes, or hospitals - we all work very hard at keeping people where they want to be with our private home care services."

"I feel it is very important that both family and clients are involved in the care plan - we do exactly what they want and need, we are not there to take over. We work to keep them independent and treat them like one of our own, even with our clients who require end of life care and support. We have a big, supportive care team to brighten their day."

Annmarie is a huge part of our team at Right at Home Stockport, and a shining example of the quality of staff we provide alongside our quality of care. Contact Right at Home Stockport today if you or a loved one requires that extra level of companionship support and care.
