Brief history of the area

Betchworth is a pretty village in the Mole Valley district of Surrey. The village centre is located on the north bank of the River Mole and south of the A25 road equidistance between Dorking and Reigate. It’s origins can be traced back to two entries in the Domesday Book of 1086 as Becesworde, held by Richard Fitz Gilbert, Richard de Tonebrige.

A largely retired population, its station and road links still make it popular with London commuters with young families. A former lime quarry, manor house and Grade I-listed church are within its boundaries. The former lime quarry is managed by workers from Surrey Wildlife Trust and English Heritage.

Cleaning and gardening companies find a strong local market. Crop, chicken and pasture agriculture as well as a relatively large, retired proportion of the population.
