Promoting Home Safety and Well-being in Partnership with Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service

A Day of Learning and Community Engagement

We are thrilled to share the success of our recent event at Newport Cottage Care Centre, where we joined forces with the Prevention Team at Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service to speak about and promote fire safety and well-being within the home. The afternoon was filled with insightful discussions and valuable information, leaving everyone better informed and more prepared.

A heartfelt thank you to Vicki (Day Care Manager) and the entire team at Newport Cottage Care Centre for hosting us and making the event a remarkable success. Your dedication to the well-being of your service users is truly inspiring and greatly appreciated.

Expert Insights from Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service

We were honoured to have Alison from the Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service with us, sharing her invaluable expertise on fire safety to nearly 30 people who were in attendance. Her presence and knowledge brought a wealth of information to everyone, helping to raise awareness about crucial fire safety measures especially for those living on their own.

It was particularly pleasing to see the enthusiastic engagement. Many took the opportunity to ask the fire service about their free home assessments and the installation of free fire alarms. This proactive approach to safety is exactly what we hoped to inspire, and we are thrilled that so many are taking steps to enhance their home safety. Having a working smoke alarm can make a huge difference, so this is a brilliant step towards keeping everyone safe and sound in their own home.

To make the session interactive and fun, we all engaged in an interesting quiz that kept everyone interested and learning. Here are some of the questions asked:

  • How many fire stations are there in Shropshire? Shropshire is home to 23 fire stations, strategically located to provide rapid response across the county.

  • What is the most common cause of house fires? Cooking-related incidents top the list as the most common cause of house fires. It's a reminder to always stay vigilant in the kitchen.

  • How close do I need to live to a fire station to be a firefighter? You need to live within five minutes of a fire station to be an on-call firefighter, ensuring you can respond quickly to emergencies.
