Best of all, CareGivers at Right at Home find their jobs rewarding and fulfilling. If you enjoy being with people, caregiving could be the role for you. Whether you are a fun, chatty person who is great at lifting people’s spirits or an excellent listener who is good at noticing when someone is not their usual self, these are the skills that are really valuable in caring roles. So if this is you, why not consider joining us as a CareGiver?
Why be a caregiver at Right at Home Twickenham and Richmond?
We pride ourselves on looking after our staff team. That means excellent pay (with the chance to earn more at weekends and bank holidays) and job security but also our commitment to invest in you as an employee.
Our CareGivers benefit from excellent training for nationally recognised qualifications, helping them to progress in their roles at the pace that suits them. On the job training and mentoring also helps our staff build their skills, confidence and develop personally, too.
We like to make caregiving as interesting and rewarding as possible, for example by matching CareGivers with clients with similar interests or outlooks. We encourage our CareGivers to help clients (when they want to) get the most out of life, whether that is enjoying a trip to the shops, local parks or other activities.
What will be my responsibilities and duties?
CareGivers’ everyday roles include offering companionship and help with routine tasks such as preparing a meal, helping clients get ready for the day or to bed. Clients might need assistance taking medication or help with household admin, such as organising birthday cards for family members. We provide more specialist services too such as respite care, dementia care, cancer care and end of life care. Responsibilities can therefore be very varied and offer our CareGivers opportunities to develop their experience.
If any of that sounds daunting, remember that we provide excellent training, one-to-one coaching and mentoring.
What does a typical day as a caregiver look like?
You may have spotted by now that no two days are the same but there are some typical patterns, depending on what shifts you work.
Morning: An early morning wake-up visit to Beverley to help her out of bed and get ready for the day - she likes to look her best.
Lunchtime: Marie likes help in preparing her lunch and to clear up afterwards. She needs help with her cancermedication
Afternoon: After a snooze, Abdul benefits from a short walk or sitting out on his patio but he is less steady on his feet these days and also needs some help with light housework. A companionship visit makes all the difference to his life.
Evening: Night time is a difficult time for Trevor as his dementia can make him anxious. A relaxing routine helps and he needs help to get washed, use the toilet and to get to bed safely. His family like to receive an update each evening about how he has been that day.
Over night: Maggie now needs 24-hour care so Right at Home CareGivers stay overnight as well as looking after her needs during the day.
