The Mayor of Spelthorne has welcomed home care providers, Right at Home Twickenham and Richmond (TR), to the company’s new offices in Sunbury on Thames. The Mayor, Councillor Susan Doran, joined Right at Home TR staff and special guests at the reception for the official opening of the offices earlier this month to celebrate.

Alastair Shanks, the Managing Director of Right at Home TR, explained why it was important for the company to have a permanent office in the local area: “High quality home care is based around our individual clients and meeting their needs. We are best placed to help our caregivers do that when we are based nearby and know the local area well. By having local staff who live in the area too, we are able to get to know the community and help our clients enjoy being part of it.”

Councillor Susan Doran worked for the NHS for 36 years. She began her career as an auxiliary, did general nursing and midwifery, and was a health visitor for 23 years. She said: “Living in our own homes as we get older and maintaining as much independence as possible is really important to many people. For those of us with older friends and relatives, reassurance that they are safe, well and able to enjoy life is absolutely vital. Home care providers like Right at Home have an important role in our communities in future so it’s great to see them getting established in our area. In particular, I’m pleased that Right at Home offers support in the wider community beyond their direct home care services.”

Right at Home TR provides care to people of all ages and with varying needs at home. “Our caregivers provide care ranging from an hour or two of companionship and helping with everyday tasks like preparing a meal to 24-hour live-in care and overnight stays,” says Mr Shanks. “Many of our clients are older people but we also have younger clients with disabilities or who are recovering from long-term illnesses such as cancer.”

Its staff also run community activities open to all. Right at Home TR launched a monthly Sunflower Cafe on Tuesday 13 September. The cafe offers support for people living with dementia and for their carers. It takes place on the second Tuesday of each month from 11am to 12pm at Ashford Baptist Church, Church Road. People with dementia and their carers are welcomed. No booking is needed.
