People living in Twickenham and Richmond set to benefit from new dementia support programme

The Mayor of Spelthorne, Councillor Susan Doran has visited Right at Home Twickenham and Richmond to learn about their new breakthrough dementia support programme.

During her visit she had the opportunity to speak with staff and find out about the unique features of the programme including its focus on person-centered care.

The research-proven approach enables people with dementia to live independently in their homes for as long as possible. Caregivers are trained to encourage a person’s abilities and to focus on minimising the symptoms of dementia.

Alastair Shanks, Managing Director of Sunbury-on-Thames based Right at Home says: “The number of people being diagnosed with dementia is increasing and so it is our aim to improve quality of life for our clients and their families in every respect. We have specialist dementia caregivers who create care plans tailored to the individual client. We also collaborate with the client and their family to set goals and provide support on nutrition, socialisation, wellness and awareness, all of which are known to help ease they symptoms of dementia.
