Marking our one year charity partnership with Alzheimer’s Society
Published: 06/05/2020
This month marks the one year anniversary of our national charity partnership with Alzheimer’s Society. When we launched our partnership in 2019, we did so with the aim of raising £20,000 across our network of 60+ offices over a 12-month period.
When we first discussed with our network the idea of supporting a national charity, the response was that our offices wanted to partner with a charity that linked into the work that we carry out and are all so passionate about.
As a national provider of homecare services, we are already committed to holding dementia friendly activities for our Clients and communities, as well as educating businesses and schools on how best to support those living with dementia. With more than half of our Clients living with a form of dementia, we selected Alzheimer’s Society and so our official charity partnership was launched.
We are thrilled to share that thanks to the fantastic support we have received from our care teams, Clients and communities, we have surpassed our fundraising target, having collectively raised £26,698.78!
The money raised over the past 12 months will be split between a number of Alzheimer’s Society projects including:
Dementia Connect – this telephone-based advisory service has been designed in response to the needs of people affected by dementia and what matters to them. The service offers a single, trusted point of contact from the moment of diagnosis onwards – ensuring people have access to timely support in a way that is right for them.
Side by Side – this service provides bespoke support, linking people living with dementia to dedicated local volunteers who help them to keep doing the things they love. Together, they pick up hobbies that may have been abandoned, or even try something new altogether. Side by Side goes beyond just making new friends. The service also works to empower people with dementia, giving them the confidence to continue their lives independently and to share their own skills.
The UK Dementia Research Institute (UK DRI) – The UK DRI comprises seven centres hosted by six world-leading universities, united under one common cause to connect, catalyse and transform dementia discovery science, speeding up the global search for preventions, treatments and technologies that change lives.
We have seen some brilliant fundraising initiatives across the Right at Home network over the past 12 months, here are just a few highlights from the year!
Cupcake Day
On Thursday 13 June, Right at Home offices up and down the UK cooked up a storm by taking part in one of Alzheimer’s Society’s flagship events, Cupcake Day. One member of staff even completed a 12-hour bake-a-thon!
Right at Home Havant and District’s 34-mile walk!
In May, the Managing Director of Right at Home Havant and District, Duncan Cameron, and members of his team took part in a 34-mile walk which took 11 hours!
The total amount raised was in excess of £1,000 and the team even achieved recognition from the JustGiving site as a top fundraiser for the month.
It was a great achievement and CareGivers, Clients, family and friends all got involved in cheering Duncan and his team on!
Elf Day
On Friday 6 December, the network took part in another of Alzheimer’s Society’s flagship fundraising events, Elf Day. As well as being a great way to raise money, we also got to Elf the bosses at National Office, our CEO and COO, Ken and Lucy!
The day saw offices run raffles, cupcake sales and recreating Elf on the Shelf to support with fundraising!
Christmas Fair
Also in December, Right at Home Mid Sussex held a Christmas Fair with live music and 20 stallholders selling Christmas gifts. Not only was this a fantastic community event with more than 160 people in attendance, the event also raised more than £1,100!
Throughout the year, we’ve also seen people take part in a rough runner obstacle course, a 52km trek across the Peak District, raffles, car boot sales and memory walks, all raising funds for Alzheimer’s Society.
Once again, we would like to say a big thank you to everyone who has helped us to raise this fantastic amount for a charity so close to our hearts – we couldn’t have done it without your support.
