This October, Right at Home is launching a nationwide campaign to challenge the stigma surrounding menopause and champion a supportive work environment for employees.

The campaign, titled Menopause Makes A Difference, will provide detailed advice, insights and experiences from people in the homecare sector living with menopause. The campaign falls within Menopause Awareness Month which encourages employers and employees to talk openly about the challenges and changes menopause brings.

Throughout the month, we will be sharing stories and experiences from members of our network on how menopause affected them. We will also be exploring how employers can support people going through menopause and what still needs to be done to make workplaces more inclusive.

As the Right at Home network comprises a large percentage of females and individuals who will experience menopause at some point, we are introducing menopause training workshops and drop-in sessions to give our employees a greater understanding of menopause and what support is available to them.

Menopausal people are, demographically, the fastest growing group of workers in the UK and 81% of menopausal employees suggested that it had a moderate to extremely high impact on their performance at work.

Staying at work can often be good for those experiencing menopause. It contributes to feelings of self-esteem, fulfillment, and identity. It also provides social contact and reduces feelings of isolation. Throughout this campaign, we aim to showcase just how supportive the social care sector is for menopausal employees, in turn hoping to empower many to stay at work for as long as they would like to.

We're giving employees a greater understanding of menopause and what support is available

Our Right at Home values and supports a culture of respect, compassion and trust. We support our teams by creating a culture of open communication; providing a safe space to talk about what they are going through; making the effort to recognise the impact menopause can have; and allowing flexible working where possible.

Right at Home Chief Executive Officer, Lucy Campbell welcomed the campaign saying: “Over half of our population will experience menopause in their lifetime. It has long been seen as a taboo subject but without talking about it and raising awareness we cannot reassure people that it is just a natural part of life. It’s extremely important to us that our employees feel supported and listened to in their working lives and I hope this campaign will encourage them to speak up and learn from one another.”
